Senior Leader - Rachel Grant
I live in Birkenhead with my husband Steve and 3 kids Finn (almost 18), Kieran (16) and Brenna (13). They are all at Northcote College. Brenna is in Year 9, Kieran Year 12 and Finn in his final year. Sadly, they are now all far taller than I am. I have been teaching at BPS for almost 10 years. I feel very lucky to work with such amazing little people; with such awesome colleagues and within such a supportive and involved parent community. I feel strongly that effective teaching is about teaching ‘the whole child’ and developing a safe, supportive and stimulating learning community that encourages curiosity and engagement in the real world, and where students are respected, cared for and believed in. Room 1 (Year 2/1)- Aimee Wells I have been a qualified teacher for over six years and I moved to New Zealand early last year with my partner. As a teacher I aim to give each child as many stimulating learning opportunities as possible in order to engage them, motivate them, and prepare them for their future lives. Room 2 (Year 1)- Nicole Nelson I have joined the BPS school community after teaching at Victoria Avenue School in Remuera for 5 years. I have been impressed with the supportive, community feel at Birkenhead Primary and look forward to teaching here. I am passionate about learning, and ensuring children have a successful, fun transition into school life. Room 3 (Year 0)- Kerrie Little & Simone Nair We have both been teaching at Birkenhead Primary School for many years, and have been part of the wider community. Our own children have attended or are attending BPS currently. We are both experienced in teaching the different levels througout the school and are throughly enjoying the opportunity to work in the Pikiake Team again this year. In our New Entrant class we love creating a safe and caring environment where children’s confidence and learning flourishes. Room 4 - NE class TBC Room 5 (Year 1)- Sandra MacLean My name is Sandra MacLean and the children call me Ms Mac. I live locally with my partner Trevor and my youngest son Jacob, who attends Birkenhead College. I have been teaching for a very large number of years, mainly in the New Entrant and Year One level. I love teaching and watching the children grow over the year. Room 6 (Year 1) - Melody O'Connor I have been teaching for many years and have been at BPS for 10 years. My twin daughters went to BPS and are now at Westlake Girls High School. I have taught all primary school levels but after having my own children particularly love teaching the junior children. Room 7 (Year 2) - Vanessa Lyle I am a BPS parent as well as a teacher. I have two daughters in school, Eloise in Year 4 and Alicia in Year 2, I also have a younger daughter who will be starting at BPS in July. I love the community feel at Birkenhead Primary. I am passionate about stimulating learning opportunities through play based activities. Room 8 (Year 2) - Aimee Shaffrey I have been at BPS since mid-2015 working with New Entrants initially and then Year Two’s. I have also taught at schools in Wellington and London. I love teaching Junior children and seeing the amazing progress they can make over a year. Room 9 (Year 2) - Chikera Atkins I graduated from university in mid-2016 and moved straight into a role at BPS. This school has been amazing - for not only supporting the learning of our children, but of our teachers too! I have a passion for creating environments and learning experiences where every child can feel excited, successful and proud of their efforts.
